Starter prompt from the guide (use it as a base):
Write a 3-email abandoned-cart sequence for {{shop name}}, an online store selling {{products}}.
Email 1 (after 4 hours): helpful reminder, mention the items. Email 2 (next day): answer common doubts (shipping time, quality, returns). Email 3 (day 3): small, honest nudge, no fake urgency.
Write one version for home customers and one for professionals who buy in bulk. Under 120 words each. Keep the cart block placeholders.

Honest note: this is rule-based segmentation and automation, not generative AI. Mailchimp also offers AI drafting for flows, and you can add that later. Their agency did the build, but the steps are standard Mailchimp features.
Prerequisites
- Mailchimp, with your online store connected (this shop used PrestaShop). Check that your store lists Abandoned cart email under Features on Mailchimp's Integrations page.
- A purchase history in the store for at least a few months.
Step-by-step setup
Step 1. Make the store sync complete. Connect or re-check the store integration so Mailchimp has each contact's full purchase history.
Step 2. Build segments from purchase data. Create segments for consumers, professionals (B2B) and resellers, plus purchase-based ones (frequent buyers, lapsed, high value). Mailchimp's help page "Segment an Audience by Purchase Activity" covers this. The shop built over 50.
Step 3. Rebuild the abandoned-cart flow. Click the Automations icon → Build from scratch → name it, pick the audience → Choose a trigger → Shopping Activity → Abandons cart → choose your store, Customer Cart Contains, and a wait time. Use Filter who can enter this flow (up to 10 segment conditions) to treat professional carts differently.
Step 4. Add the emails. Drag in Send email, Select a Template, keep the automatic Cart content block and button, then Save and return to flow → Continue → Turn On. For high-value professional carts the shop offered financing.
Step 5. Add welcome and win-back journeys. Use new-customer and inactive-contact flows, targeted to the relevant segments.
Step 6. Add popup forms per audience. Follow Mailchimp's "Create a Popup Form" to make separate sign-up popups for consumers and professionals. The shop's popups cut time-to-first-purchase by 17%.
