> Cost: Paid. ActiveCampaign starts at $15 a month (Starter, billed annually, 1,000 contacts); most of what this guide uses needs Plus ($49) or higher, and texting is a paid add-on. 14-day free trial, no card.
Honest note: Mostly rules, with one AI step. The event sequence is rule-based (form, confirmation, reminders timed to the event date, feedback email). The AI part is Active Intelligence suggesting send times and answering performance questions. The headline 4% to 67% open rate is not apples to apples: the 4% was blog-announcement emails in Mailchimp, and the page says event emails ran near 100% opens against 67% across all 95 campaigns. Open rates are inflated by email privacy features, so a 100% open rate is not real engagement. The 32% is 68 registrations from 215 landing page views for one event (checks). The 55% open rate within 16 hours of a Sunday send is one test. The page gives no attendance numbers.
Prerequisites
- An ActiveCampaign account (Plus or higher for landing pages; Predictive Sending needs Pro).
- An event date and a video link or location for each event.
- A landing page or form for registration, and a feedback request you want.
Step-by-step setup
Step 1. Registration form. Build an event-specific form or landing page under the Website area of ActiveCampaign (the page used one landing page per event). Confirm the menu labels on your account; Site Tracking sits in the same area.
Step 2. One automation per event. Automations (left menu) → Create an automation → Start from scratch → Add a start trigger → Submits a form and pick this event's form. Then add: (1) Send an email confirming the event and the link; (2) a Wait step (choose a set period of time, *Until a specific day and/or time*, *Until a custom date field matches*, or *Until specific conditions are met*, with an optional time limit) set to a specific day 7 days before the event, then a reminder email; (3) another wait until the day before and a final reminder; (4) a wait until a day after and a feedback email asking for a short testimonial. This is the page's own sequence. Make one copy per event and change the dates.
Step 3. Pick send times. For Pro plans, create a Standard campaign, open Schedule, choose Use Predictive Sending, set the date and time window, and save. ActiveCampaign recalculates send times weekly and may randomize early sends to collect data. The page credits Active Intelligence for suggesting a Sunday send; ActiveCampaign's documented tool for this is Predictive Sending. Test one send time at a time.
Step 4. Plan your calendar. Use the Campaigns Calendar to plan two months of emails and spot too many promotions in a row (ActiveCampaign help: Use the Campaigns Calendar).
Easier: let your AI do it. ActiveCampaign publishes a remote MCP address (Settings (gear) → Developer → Remote MCP URL) that you can add to Claude as a connector (Customize → Connectors). I did not verify which actions it can take, so keep approval on for every write. ActiveCampaign's own Active Intelligence (icon above the search bar, or the ActiveCampaign logo for the home page) can also build a first draft of an automation from a typed prompt, which you then review and click Activate.
What success looks like
Registering for a test event sends the confirmation, and the contact sits waiting for the reminder dates. After the event, compare registrations, attendance (from your video platform) and testimonials, not only opens.
Common issues & fixes
- Reminder never sends: the wait date was set before the contact joined or in the past; set it per event.
- Everyone gets reminders for old events: use a separate automation per event and stop old ones.
- High opens but no attendance: open rates are inflated, so track registrations and attendance.
Optional: Maintenance
- After each event: copy the automation, change the dates, and add new testimonials to the landing page.
- Monthly: review the calendar for content balance.
Copy-paste prompt
Paste into any AI chat to draft the four emails, then edit before saving them in ActiveCampaign.
Write four emails for a free online event called [EVENT NAME] on [DATE]. Email 1 confirms registration and gives the link [LINK]. Email 2 (7 days before) reminds with 3 bullet reasons to attend. Email 3 (1 day before) is a short final reminder with the start time in [TIME ZONE]. Email 4 (1 day after) thanks attendees, shares the replay [LINK], and asks for a 1-2 sentence testimonial reply. Warm, plain, under 100 words each, no medical advice, no invented quotes.Sources
