> Cost: Paid. ActiveCampaign starts at $15 a month (Starter, billed annually, 1,000 contacts); most of what this guide uses needs Plus ($49) or higher, and texting is a paid add-on. 14-day free trial, no card.
Honest note: Genuine AI for drafting, rules for everything else. ActiveCampaign's generative AI writes the first draft of each email and suggests subject lines; link-click tags and the webinar nudge are rule-based. The numbers are vendor-published and conflict: the headline says 3x sales volume while the text says booked sales calls tripled; it says 10x revenue from moving online, yet the coach says she is hitting $10k months and her next milestone is $10,000 a month; 85% faster campaign creation matches a week down to a day, but another line says three emails a week. No baseline call counts are given. The page does not say how many leads became customers.
Prerequisites
- An ActiveCampaign account; Plus or higher for automations beyond 5 actions.
- A webinar or offer, a booking link (Calendly appears on the page), and consent from your list to email them.
- For the webinar nudge: a registration form (Jotform on the page) and a free or paid Zapier account.
Step-by-step setup
Step 1. Draft emails with AI. In an ActiveCampaign email, add a Text block in the Email Designer, type a prompt like *Generate webinar CTAs*, and click Generate; ActiveCampaign returns three options you can adjust (works in the 2022 Email Designer, not the classic one). Or click Active Intelligence and describe the campaign in one prompt to get a subject line, preheader, layout and call to action. Always edit the draft in your own voice before sending.
Step 2. Welcome sequence. Automations (left menu) → Create an automation → Start from scratch → Add a start trigger → Submits a form (your webinar sign-up form) → Send an email (welcome) with a short follow-up two days later.
Step 3. Click-tag segmentation. In an email, link the words *moving soon* (or any motivation), then build a second automation with the start trigger Clicks a link in an email and choose that email and link. Add an Add tag action such as *Moving motivation*, then send a short tailored sequence ending in a booking link.
Step 4. Watch-time nudge. Capture attendance in your webinar tool, then use a Zap (+ Create → Zaps, trigger = your form app, action = ActiveCampaign) to add a tag or field like *Left early* when someone watched under 50%. In ActiveCampaign, start an automation on Tag is added, wait a day, and send a *Finish watching* email with the replay. The page does this with Jotform data sent through Zapier.
Easier: let your AI do it. ActiveCampaign publishes a remote MCP address (Settings (gear) → Developer → Remote MCP URL) that you can add to Claude as a connector (Customize → Connectors). I did not verify which actions it can take, so keep approval on for every write. ActiveCampaign's own Active Intelligence (icon above the search bar, or the ActiveCampaign logo for the home page) can also build a first draft of an automation from a typed prompt, which you then review and click Activate.
What success looks like
A test click on your tagged link adds the tag within a minute, the right follow-up arrives, and a draft you generated is sitting in the designer. After a month, compare booked calls with your count before you began emailing more often.
Common issues & fixes
- AI draft sounds generic: give it your own examples and edit heavily.
- Tag never added: make sure the link goes to a tracked email link and the trigger names the exact email.
- Too many emails: cap yourself at the cadence you can read replies for.
Optional: Maintenance
- Weekly: read replies and book calls.
- Monthly: ask Active Intelligence which emails got the most clicks and reuse their structure.
