Step-by-step setup guide

> Cost: Paid. ActiveCampaign starts at $15 a month (Starter, billed annually, 1,000 contacts); most of what this guide uses needs Plus ($49) or higher, and texting is a paid add-on. 14-day free trial, no card.

Honest note: Rules, not AI. The numbers are vendor-published and rounded: attendance up around 40%, no-shows down around 20%, conversion of event leads up around 40%, with no baseline counts. The page also says 12% of revenue comes from email automations and 200 hours a month saved, both owner estimates. The setup is only named (landing pages, forms, pipelines, automations with waits, site-tracking tags, WooCommerce and Zendesk connections), not shown step by step; the steps below use ActiveCampaign's own help for each piece. The 75% open rate on the product finder email is inflated by email privacy features.

Prerequisites

  • An ActiveCampaign account (Plus or higher).
  • A list of event hosts and a page where they request an event.
  • If you sell online, a WooCommerce store (ActiveCampaign integrates) or other sales system.

Step-by-step setup

Step 1. Tag interest from your site. Website → Site Tracking → turn Enable on → type your domain (no http:// or www) → Add → copy the tracking code into the footer of every page you want tracked. Then build an automation that starts with Web page is visited (pick your domain or a specific page address; wildcards like yourdomain.com/* work). Add an Add tag action so a visit to a product page tags the contact with that interest (the page does this with site-tracking tags and conditional content).

Step 2. Event request to pipeline. Build an event request form (the Website area), and under Deals make a pipeline with stages like *Requested*, *Date set*, *Event held*, *Follow-up*, *Won* (ActiveCampaign help: create and edit a stage). Start an automation on Submits a form that creates the deal and sends a confirmation.

Step 3. Reminders before the event. In each event's automation, add a Wait step (choose a set period of time, *Until a specific day and/or time*, *Until a custom date field matches*, or *Until specific conditions are met*, with an optional time limit) set to a specific day (for example 7 days and 1 day before) and send reminders to the attendee list. Make one copy per event.

Step 4. Follow up on non-buyers. After the event, tag attendees who did not buy and send a short follow-up series with a link to order. Use conditional content to show each person the product they looked at.

Step 5. Build-status emails. Connect WooCommerce (Settings → Integrations → WooCommerce, plus the WordPress plugin). When a deal moves through your manufacturing stages, send a short status email at each stage change. Confirm the stage-change trigger name in the trigger list on your account.

Easier: let your AI do it. ActiveCampaign publishes a remote MCP address (Settings (gear) → Developer → Remote MCP URL) that you can add to Claude as a connector (Customize → Connectors). I did not verify which actions it can take, so keep approval on for every write. ActiveCampaign's own Active Intelligence (icon above the search bar, or the ActiveCampaign logo for the home page) can also build a first draft of an automation from a typed prompt, which you then review and click Activate.

What success looks like

A test event host appears in your pipeline at once, the reminder emails are scheduled on your chosen days, and moving a test deal sends the status email. Compare your attendance and no-show counts for the next two events with the last two.

Common issues & fixes

  • Page visits do not tag: the tracking code must be in the footer of every page and the domain entered without http:// or www.
  • Reminders go to the wrong group: make the automation per event, not one for all.
  • Status emails duplicate: check each stage change fires one email.

Optional: Maintenance

  • After each event: note attendance and no-shows.
  • Quarterly: update reminders and status wording.
